23 Μαρ 2022 · For example, if you’re looking up black snakes in California it could be a naturally black species, a melanistic individual, or just a darker-than-usual brown snake. However, the snake’s color is still a useful characteristic. Snakes that are usually black or brown won’t suddenly spout a bright red animal.
