24 Ιαν 2024 · The NSN provides space communications and tracking services to missions operating in near-space, which extends to two million kilometers from Earth. The NSN enables crewed, robotic, and launch vehicle missions through the use of NASA-owned stations and through cooperative agreements with interagency, international, and commercial service providers.
Through space relays (Space Relay - SR) and ground-based antennas (Direct-to-Earth - DTE), the NSN provides data delivery and satellite tracking services, bringing down an average of almost 30 terabytes of critical data daily.
At three sites around the globe NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory operates a network of large radio antennas called the DSN. The DSN is used to keep in contact with the spacecraft exploring our solar system and the universe beyond.
