17th Reconnaissance Wing aircraft, landing at its Alconbury base. Operated by 95 RS from RAF Alconbury. Later redesignated U-2S. This TR-1A was operated by 95th RS from RAF Alconbury. There, it crashed on 24 April 1990. Fortunately, it was rebuilt as a TU-2S and became operational again as of 1994.

A tactical reconnaissance version, the TR-1A, first flew in August 1981. A distinguishing feature of these aircraft is the addition of a large instrumentation "superpod" under each wing. Designed for standoff tactical reconnaissance in Europe, the TR-1A was structurally identical to the U-2R.
