During May 1-2, 2010, Nashville received more than 13 inches of rainfall, forcing the Cumberland River, and several others, over their banks. Flooding devastated areas throughout Nashville and surrounding counties, taking lives and destroying homes, businesses, and roadways.

Summary/Abstract: The Flood 2010 Oral Histories document the historic Middle Tennessee flood of May 1-2, 2010 and the aftermath, as told by the people who lived through it. The project includes 174 oral history interviews conducted by library staff and volunteers.
The Nashville Public Library Special Collections Division, in partnership with institutions throughout the city, will collect oral histories, still images, text, audio, video and documents relating to the May 2010 flood.
