10 Απρ 2009 · Defining the Bioeconomy. Both OECD and developing countries face a range of environmental, social, and economic challenges over the next two decades. Rising incomes, particularly in developing countries, will increase demand for healthcare and for agricultural, forestry, and fishing products.
The topic of “bioeconomy” encompasses a broad interdisciplinary field with numerous biotechnical and economic applications that aim at a more sustainable production within a national economy and that map processes more closely to nature.
A national economy is the production, distribution and trade, consumption of goods and services by different agents of a nation. The national economy in a global context is primarily about macroeconomics. But microeconomic principles do influence the behaviour of the macroeconomy.
Chapter 2 introduces core themes of fundamental causation and economic value and explains how these help to clarify some of the policy issues relevant to the biodiversity conservation debate. Chapter 3 sets the issue in the context of cost-benefit analysis. Chapter 4 looks at the causes of biodiversity loss.
