This chapter is based on ten interviews with Holocaust survivors resident in the United States, conducted between May 2005 and August 2006. The interviews, of which three were recorded on video and seven on audiotape, attempted to explore the lives of slave and forced labourers, their survival and their postwar lives.
The use of slave and forced labour in Nazi Germany (German: Zwangsarbeit) and throughout German-occupied Europe during World War II took place on an unprecedented scale. [2] It was a vital part of the German economic exploitation of conquered territories.
