Here is my attempt at ranking every current head coach by how good they were as players: Only the top 11 played in the NBA, and I ranked them according to career win shares. The top 3 were clearly ahead of everyone else, and the rest of the NBA guys seemed to fall in logical order.
There are 4 current black head coaches as of this morning. with 30 NBA teams (Lloyd Pierce, JB Bickerstaff, Dwane Casey and Monty Williams), that means that 13.3% of the head coaching positions are held by blacks, not 7.5%.
Brad Stevens, youngest coach with the oldest looking pictures here. All the white players in the picture make it look like he played in the 50s. Also Doc Rivers has been looking like he's 50 since like 25 years ago. Thon could've learned a lot from Brad had he cared enough about ball to seek him out. That's exactly what I was thinking.
Some guys, like Silas, have the trial period of coaching while they're tanking. Rafael Stone also has that trial period right now and if it comes down to it, the coach gets fired before the GM. I agree with you but the business of the NBA doesn't operate this way.
