Two routes – Hatteras-Ocracoke and Ocracoke-Cedar Island – are officially part of the Outer Banks National Scenic Byway . To view a schedule for a particular route, choose a starting point or destination from the menus below. A PDF of the schedule is available for download . Plan Your Trip.
Being surrounded by water, traveling by ferry is a convenient and popular mode of transportation on the Outer Banks. There are just some places cars can’t go, or at the very least, not very easily. For a complete look at the NC DOT Ferry schedules and fares, please visit the NCDOT website.

Call our Chamber office at (252) 441-8144, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday, EST. A free ferry service is available between Hatteras and Ocracoke Island by the NC Ferry System .
These routes include the Bayview / Aurora ferry, the Cherry Branch / Minnesott Beach ferry, and the Southport/Fort Fisher Ferry. All of these routes are free crossings, run in between 20-45 minutes, and connect visitors to parts of the mainland that are divided by deep channels of salt water.
