This was an outstanding episode in which the humor of the individual characters really started to come out - the very feature that differentiates this show from most other procedural shows - the true character formation.

This storyline was inspired by the case of Andy Muns, Disbursement Officer of the USS Cacaphon, who mysteriously disappeared before Morning Muster, near Subic Bay Naval Base, Philippines in 1968 during the Vietnam War. It was one of the oldest cases resolved by NCIS Cold Case Unit.
The Curse is the fifth episode in NCIS Season 1 and the 5th episode of the entire NCIS series. While in a forest, a hunter discovers a cargo pod containing the mummified remains of a lieutenant commander.
