Our NEC Conduit Fill Chart calculates THWN and THHN wire fill for EMT, IMT, rigid metal, or flexible metal conduit pipe using conduit trade size and AWG or MCM wire size.
Calculating conduit fill is a straightforward process, but important to comply with NEC requirements (National Electrical Code) and avoid expensive rewiring (and most importantly, to keep your electrical installation safe!).

The ratio can be used to determine appropriate conduit size or determine how many cables can be placed in an existing conduit. The maximum recommended ratio can be affected by several factors, including application type, number of cables in the conduit, and the number of conduit bends.
Step 1: Locate “1-inch EMT” in the chart. Step 2: Look under the column for “12 AWG THHN.”. Step 3: Check the maximum number of wires allowed. For a 40% fill, the chart may show that a 1-inch EMT conduit can hold up to nine 12 AWG THHN wires, meaning that your planned installation of four wires is within safe limits. 7.
Conduit Fill Chart. This table provides the initial recommended 40% fill capacity for Ethernet and coaxial cable based upon conduit trade size and cable jacket diameter. Take note that conduit less than 3/4” (3/4 trade size) is not recommended for communications cable installation.
