This article aims to discuss (1) the importance of the concept of negative identity in contemporary society, (2) the frameworks for empirical research on negative identity formation, and (3) the clinical interventions for youth with a negative identity.
1 Ιαν 2019 · To understand negative identity, we adopted the strategy of identifying individuals with senses of negative identity (i.e., creating a negative identity group) and comparing them with other individuals (i.e., a positive identity group and a balanced identity group).
Personal identity refers to those features of the self that distinguish us from others while social identity refers to features of the self that are a source of commonality with others, such as group memberships.
