Nemesis was the ancient Greek goddess of indignation against, and retribution for, evil deeds and undeserved good fortune. She was a personification of the resentment aroused in men by those who commited crimes with apparent impunity, or who had inordinate good fortune.
Nemesis in Mythology. In myths where Nemesis was named as the mother of the two sets of twins, she was pursued by Zeus. In an attempt to escape Zeus’s unwanted attentions, Nemesis transformed herself into a goose. Undeterred, Zeus transformed himself into a swan, caught Nemesis, and impregnated her.
