The TLM103 is, of course, a complete impossibility — it has supposedly been designed to a project studio price whilst retaining the qualities of Neumann's top‑flight, large‑diaphragm U87.
The 103 is a great mic. It's very accurate, very low self noise, and in many ways a direct descendant of the 87. What's different? TLM stands for transformerless microphone, so it uses a different output circuit than the 87 transformer based design.
