The index represents births reported in all five boroughs of New York City from 1911 to 1931, with new volumes released on an ongoing basis. Up until 1928, volume 1 represents Manhattan, while volume 2 represents the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Richmond (Staten Island).
New York State Birth Index. This collection contains images of the official New York State birth index produced by the Department of Health. Organized by year, names are arranged alphabetically by the first letter of last name.

12 Αυγ 2024 · What is in This Collection? The collection consists of an index to birth records from New York City including Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, and Richmond boroughs. The collection covers the years 1846 to 1909.
Data elements include year/date of death, decedent name, gender, residence code, and state file number. The State Archives also holds an index to “delayed” birth certificates filed for some births occurring prior to 1881 [series B2029], mostly in the 1870s.
Marriage Records. The New York City Health Department issued marriage certificates through 1907. Beginning in 1908, in compliance with N.Y. State Law, couples planning to marry obtained a license from the City Clerk.
