Phishing—or “vishing”—scams impersonate SED employees or websites attempting to collect licensure and personal information from the licensee.

The Department issues written certification of licensure to provide a licensee’s official information on the basis of licensure for a variety of purposes. The Department also issues written verification of licensure confirming an individual is licensed in NYS and their registration status.
Verification Searches. The information furnished at this web site is from the Office of Professions' official database and is updated daily, Monday through Friday. The Office of Professions considers this information to be a secure, primary source for license verification.
A holder of an Initial certificate must apply to the New York State Department of Education for the Professional certificate upon completion of requirements. Note that there are new registration and continuing education requirements for Professional certificate holders.
