Application Requirements. The Press Credentials Office accepts applications for three types of press credentials: A Standard Press Card allows a member of the press to attend multiple events while the Press Card is valid.

Apply for a new Press Card or renew an existing Press Card through the Press Credentials Office. Check the status of an existing Press Card Application including the ability to upload additional supporting media and make modifications if necessary.

Criteria for obtaining a press card are in Title 43, Chapter 16 of the Rules of the City of New York and more information about applying is available on the PCO’s webpage. A press card is not required to engage in newsgathering activity and to work as a journalist in New York City.
You need to apply for press credentials at this NYPD link. Call the credentials office at (646) 610-6700. The NYPD can fax an application or one can be mailed. You must be a member of the press and be able to supply the NYPD with proof of your work. Please read application carefully!
