2 ημέρες πριν · The Lewis structure of NH3 is made in such a manner that the scarcity of one valence electron in each hydrogen atom (total three hydrogen atoms), as well as three valence electrons in the nitrogen atom, is fulfilled and balanced.

The Lewis structure of H 2 O indicates that there are four regions of high electron density around the oxygen atom: two lone pairs and two chemical bonds: We predict that these four regions are arranged in a tetrahedral fashion (Figure \(\PageIndex{6}\)), as indicated in Figure \(\PageIndex{9}\).

Valence electrons of NH3 ( Ammonia ) Nitrogen is a group 15 element and has five electrons in its outer shell. In contrast, Hydrogen is a group 1 element and only has 1 valence electron in its outer shell.
Properties. Liquid NH 3. Solid NH 3. Two visible states of NH 3. Ammonia is a colourless gas with a characteristically pungent smell. It is lighter than air, its density being 0.589 times that of air. It is easily liquefied due to the strong hydrogen bonding between molecules.
Molecular shape of ammonia. Because, there are three sigma bonds and one lone pair around nitrogen atom, molecular shape of ammonia is trigonal pyramidal.
In the case of ammonia there are 4 charge clouds (3 bonding pairs and 1 lone pair) so the basic shape of ammonia is tetrahedral and the bond angle is 109.5 degrees. However, as you can see there are 3 bonding pairs (nitrogen bonded to hydrogen) and one lone pair of electrons (unpaired electrons on the nitrogen).
