2021 Model Year Vehicles Selected for Testing by NHTSA. Each year, NHTSA crash tests vehicles as part of our 5-Star Safety Ratings program. In addition, we do verification tests on advanced crash avoidance technology systems in vehicles. Here are the lists of vehicle models selected for each test.
Vehicle ratings. IIHS tests evaluate two aspects of safety: crashworthiness — how well a vehicle protects its occupants in a crash — and crash avoidance and mitigation — technology that can prevent a crash or lessen its severity. Start typing a make and/or model, and a list of choices will appear.

Cars With The Lowest NHTSA Rankings. This ranking list is calculated by totaling the overall scores in 4 categories given to a car by the NHTSA. Each category is weighted equally, so a car with 5 stars in each category (Overall, Front, Side, Rollover) earns the maximum 20 points.
