  2. European Plain, one of the greatest uninterrupted expanses of plain on the Earth’s surface. It sweeps from the Pyrenees Mountains on the French-Spanish border across northern Europe to the Ural Mountains in Russia.

  3. Most of the Great European Plain lies below 500 feet (152 metres) in elevation. It has coastlines in the west and northwest in the Atlantic basin, to the northeast the Arctic Basin, and to the southeast the Mediterranean Basin, including the Black Sea.

  4. It consists of the low plains between the Hercynian Europe (Central European Highlands) to the south and coastlines of the North Sea and the Baltic Sea to the north. These two seas are separated by the Jutland Peninsula (Denmark).
