However; I checked the formatting of my external drive by right clicking it and clicking Format.. and under File System it says "NTFS (Default)"
18 Δεκ 2021 · FAT32 is an old filesystem that isn't really used anymore, an individual file can only be 4GB. if your harddrive is FAT32 you will need to reformat Windows, delete the old partition on the drive and create it in NFTS instead, otherwise you won't be able to have files over 4GB.

10 Νοε 2022 · If your Steam library is located in a non-system drive and and the drive is non in NTFS format, you may encounter the Steam error code 53. For example, if you format the drive that the Steam library is on to exFAT, you can encounter the error easily.
The main reason that ntfs tends to not work on Linux steam is because the Linux version of steam uses a lot of linking between files and dirrectories, especially on proton games to load dxvk libraries.
the only way to fix is install on another drive or format the drive into NTFS (this will delete ABSOLUTELY FUCKING EVERYTHING ON THAT DRIVE so be careful) (also FAT32 has been obsolete for over a decade at this point
