Most TVs currently sold in SECAM countries support both SECAM and PAL, and more recently composite video NTSC as well (though not usually broadcast NTSC, that is, they cannot accept a broadcast signal from an antenna).
The major distinction between NTSC, PAL, and Secam is that NTSC is an abbreviation for National Television Standard Committee, PAL is an abbreviation for Phase Alternating Line, and Secam is an abbreviation for Sequential Couleurmmoire.

Multi-standard video monitors were already in use in Europe to accommodate broadcast sources in PAL, SECAM, and NTSC video formats. The heterodyne color-under process of U-Matic, Betamax & VHS lent itself to minor modification of VCR players to accommodate NTSC format cassettes.
Overview. Perhaps the most technically challenging conversion to make is the PAL and SÉCAM to NTSC conversion. PAL and SÉCAM use 625 lines at 50 fields/s or 25 frames/s. NTSC uses 525 lines at 59.94 fields/s (60000/1001) or 30 frames/s. The NTSC standard is temporally and spatially incompatible with both PAL and SÉCAM.
