S/U Option and Minor Programme. 1) Satisfactory / Unsatisfactory Option. With effect from AY2024-2025, Flexible Grading Option (FGO) supersedes the existing S/U Option.
#AskNTUSU What does this semester's S/U Option mean for me? Clarifications With the recent announcement of S/U option, we understand that there are several queries. This is dependent on your course and specialisation. We suggest the following: 1. Send your queries to your academic club 2. SU will work closely with your academic club to address ...
The S/U Option allows you to declare certain modules as basically pass (Satisfactory) or Fail (Unsatisfactory). EITHER way, that module will then have no effect on your GPA. If declared as Unsatisfactory, however, the AU from the module will not count towards fulfilling degree requirements.
In the end, for the higher level mods, you can hardly use the S/U option. Apparently other schools like SMU has no SU option....
In NUS you can S/U any level-1000 and most (or in some cases almost all) level-2000 modules including core modules. You cannot S/U any level-3000 and level-4000 modules. You also make the choice to exercise the S/U option after getting your results. In NTU you cannot S/U core modules.
NU of S has rolled out its new S/U policy that allows students to S/U AFTER seeing their results at the END OF THE ACADEMIC YEAR instead of end of semester. Whereas our school still stick with the archaistic S/U policy.
First and foremost, S/U option is only applicable to certain categories of modules, usually the electives. If a module is part of your core or major curriculum, it is unlikely it can be converted into an S/U option. Check out the school policy carefully.
