Nursing informatics (NI) is a specialty that integrates nursing science, computer science, and information science to manage and communicate data, information, knowledge, and wisdom in nursing practice. NI supports consumers, patients, nurses, and other providers in their decision- making in all roles and settings.
Background: A nursing management information system is a decision support system for nursing managers. The present literature review aimed to systematically examine the features of different nursing management information systems employed by nursing managers in different countries.

NURSING INFORMATION SYSTEMS (NIS): KEY ELEMENTS. Nursing may use each of the systems just described. NIS include the financial, decision-support and office automation functions. Nursing also has unique departmental/clinical information systems needs.
Nursing informatics is broad, accommodates a diverse array of nursing strengths and interests, and impacts virtually every aspect of healthcare where technology integrates with clinical practice, no matter the setting.
Information systems and support for nursing practice benefits from conceptual clarification of nursing data, information, knowledge, and wisdom. We introduce three examples of information systems and point out core issues for information integration and practice development.
On an operational level, the nursing management information system includes human resource capabilities such as staff profiles, educational credentials, professional licensure status, and scheduling, all of which facilitate effective development and deployment of nursing resources.
