Priorities for achieving food security and improved nutrition in Liberia The priority actions that government will lead to ensure that all Liberians are able to have reliable access to the food they need and to utilize that food to achieve good nutritional status are outlined here.
To better characterize conditions and guide urgent and long-term responses, the Liberian Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) is undertaking a Rapid Food Security, Livelihoods, Markets and Nutrition Assessment with the support of the U.N., USAID, and other donors.
• Food security status is improving compared to 2006 but remains unacceptably high with 41% of the population’s food intake below acceptable. • Liberia remains highly dependent on foreign markets for food (two‐thirds is imported).
Strategic outcome 1: Food-insecure populations, including school-age children in targeted areas, have access to adequate and nutritious food, including food produced locally, by 2030. Strategic outcome 2: Crisis-affected populations in targeted areas are able to meet their basic food and nutrition needs during and in the aftermath of crises.
