Given the important relationship between HIV, nutrition, growth and survival of children living with HIV, WHO recommends that nutritional assessment and support be an integral part of the care plan of an HIV-infected infant or child, irrespective of whether the child is on ART (WHO 2009).
2 Νοε 2023 · Zinc, selenium, serum protein and albumin levels measured at study entry and over 48 weeks were compared between children aged 6 to < 36 months who were living with HIV and had SAM or mild malnutrition-normal nutrition. Children with SAM were enrolled after 10–18 days of nutritional rehabilitation.

HIV-infected adults and children being considered for ART should be screened for nutritional problems, and the extent of such screening will depend on the technical capacity and level of support at the clinical care setting.
