Fourth Department Decisions. Generally, decision-orders are released two weeks after the conclusion of the term, at 3:00 p.m. An appeal or proceeding not decided on the decision date is still pending before the Court -- check future decision-order releases.
The Appellate Division has the power to review issues of both law and fact in civil and criminal matters. The Appellate Division hears appeals from the State's trial courts, including Supreme Court, County Court, Family Court, Surrogate's Court and the Court of Claims.
The Fourth Department of the Appellate Division holds jurisdiction over 22 counties in Central and Western New York State, and includes the cities of Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse.
