28 Οκτ 2015 · New York State imposes a highway use tax (HUT) on motor carriers operating certain motor vehicles on New York State public highways (excluding toll-paid portions of the New York State Thruway). The tax rate is based on the weight of the motor vehicle and the method that you choose to report the tax.
Form DTF-96 may be used to report only address changes for business tax accounts. For other changes, use Form DTF-95, Business Tax Account Update. Many changes may be reported online instead of by one of these forms.

The highway use tax applies to all vehicles operating in New York above a certain weight. Special exemptions and reporting requirements exist for both the fuel use tax and the highway use tax. New York State participates in the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) to collect fuel use taxes.
