Pursuant to 19 NYCRR 500, any fire that occurs on property under the jurisdiction of a college or university must be reported to the Office of Fire Prevention and Control (OFPC) within 24 hours of occurrence or discovery.

The NYS OFPC Campus Fire report can be filled out online through the OFPC's reporting system, providing information on fire safety measures, fire incidents, fire drills, and more.
This document presented a comprehensive campus fire safety plan for New York’s colleges and universities. One of the final recommendations included in the Report was that “The Office of Fire Prevention and Control should establish guidelines for: training for college residential life personnel...”

The Task Force’s recommendation consolidates the responsibility for private colleges and universities’ campus building inspections, outside of New York City, to the State’s Office of Fire Prevention and Control (OFPC).
