26 Ιουν 2023 · I have always done Sudoku on paper and can always do mediums and usually hards. I've started doing the NYT Sudoku online and too often have trouble with the medium. At this point in this particular puzzle I am not seeing the way forward. The highlighted square is the hint the game gave me but I'm not seeing it.
12 Μαΐ 2020 · I keep getting stuck on the NY Times Sudoku medium difficulty puzzles. I go through one number at a time and narrow down large box where that number can only be in two spaces. When I finish the nines I start back at the ones using the information from what numbers were determined in the first step.
Every Sudoku puzzle that has at least one solution (we don't consider puzzles with no solution) can be solved (definition from #2) using brute-force (which by #1 is not considered guessing). Considering the above I claim that: Sudoku puzzles never require guessing.
27 Ιουλ 2022 · I've been reading several articles on difficult Sudoku puzzles and whether "guessing" is ever acceptable. The attached image shows the stage I reached using only deduction but at this point I could not see a purely logical correct next step. I eventually found the solution by "brute force" choosing one number from a pair and proceeding from there.

From my understand though is that sudoku is a logic puzzle and you shouldn't need to resort to guessing to figure out the next move. I was wondering if somebody could find and explain my next logical move ( or 2 ).

E.g., take the 10 best Sudoku solvers at the last World Sudoku Championships and say a puzzle is of "medium" difficulty if they take 3 minutes on average. In practice, assembling a representative group of a few solvers and having them solve your puzzles will give a reliable view of their relative difficulty.
15 Μαΐ 2014 · For a standard 9×9 Sudoku, the minimum is 17 squares. It had long been known that at least 16 were required and that 17 was sufficient. This article closes the gap.
