This case raises fundamental questions concerning not only economic and racial justice, but also the role of African American women in redressing the socio-economic conditions that oppressed women and families.
Odell Waller (March 6, 1917 [nb 1] – July 2, 1942) was an African-American sharecropper from Gretna, Virginia, executed for the fatal shooting of his white landlord, Oscar Wheldon Davis, on July 15, 1940.
The accused, Odell Waller, was indicted for the murder of Oscar Davis. He was found, by a jury, guilty of murder in the first degree and sentence of death was pronounced by the trial court.
