17 Αυγ 2023 · What are the Objectives of Cutoffs and Relays? At the most fundamental level, the primary objectives of executing proper cutoffs and relays in baseball are to prevent extra bases and deliver crisp, accurate throws that avoid costly errors.
The objective of this drill is to practice a relay from the outfield to the infield. This drill can be setup into a game to make it more appealing to a younger team. The drill works on the mechanics of throwing to a cut-off man and receiving a throw as the cut-off man.

Cutoff/Relay Man • The relay man should have his hands in the air to give a target to the outfielder. • The cutoff and relay men should be in a position to make a perfect throw to the intended base if needed. They should never position themselves farther from the target than their abilities allow.
