The forearm is the part of the arm between the wrist and the elbow. It is made up of two bones: the radius and the ulna. Forearm fractures are common in childhood, accounting for more than 40% of all childhood fractures. About 3 out of 4 (75% of) forearm fractures in children occur at the wrist end of the radius.
Distal third radius and ulna fractures in older children are suitably managed with immobilisation that does not extend above the elbow. In young children, extending the splint or cast above the elbow may assist to prevent slippage of the immobilisation device on the chubby forearm (Figure 1B).
22 Αυγ 2009 · Pediatric Radius and Ulna Fractures • The vast majority of pediatric forearm fractures can be treated closed • Children heal faster than adults • Remodeling potential is high when <8 years old and decreases as skeletal maturity is reached • Bayonet apposition will remodel Injury 6 months later

15 Σεπ 2022 · The two areas where the radius and ulna meet, at the elbow and the wrist, are called the radioulnar articulations. Because of the interosseous membrane and these articulations, any disruption or fracture of one bone is usually accompanied by fracture to the other (image 1) [1,4,9].
17 Δεκ 2014 · In most cases, fractures of the ulnar styloid occur in the setting of fractures of the distal radius in children and adolescents. Cast immobilization used to treat the radius fractures leads to healing of some ulnar styloid fractures, but most do not unite radiographically.
