There are three Ohio public retirement systems that are connected for the purposes of combining service credit: School Employees Retirement System of Ohio (SERS); the State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS); and the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS).
The OPERS Traditional Pension Plan. The Traditional Pension Plan is a defined benefit plan under which a retirement benefit is based on a formula. The formula is determined by years of service credit in the Traditional Pension Plan and the average of the three or five highest years.
