Retirement Eligibility Changes Announced April 2, 2024. The current retirement eligibility rule requiring 34 years of service for an unreduced retirement benefit under the Defined Benefit Plan has been made permanent. The requirement was previously scheduled to increase to 35 years of service on Aug. 1, 2028.

(Minimum Age and Years of Service) Aug. 1, 2021–July 1, 2023. Any age and 34 years; or age 65 and 5 years.
18 Οκτ 2024 · Board Approves Supplemental Payment for Benefit Recipients. The State Teachers Retirement Board approved a one-time supplemental benefit payment for eligible recipients who started receiving benefits in or prior to January 2024. The supplemental benefit will be paid in December.
23 Οκτ 2024 · At its October meeting, the State Teachers Retirement Board approved a one-time supplemental benefit payment for eligible recipients who started receiving benefits in or prior to January 2024 and are eligible to receive a December 2024 benefit payment.
The State Teachers Retirement Board has approved a change to the eligibility requirements for an unreduced retirement benefit under STRS Ohio’s Defined Benefit Plan.
Members who are changing plans must inform STRS Ohio by June 1, 2023, and you can indicate your selection using your Online Personal Account. A paper form can be requested by contacting STRS Ohio at 888‑227‑7877 (toll-free).
