5 Δεκ 2016 · In the late 1970's ABU made what had become a seriously collectible and Iconic fishing reel in the shape of the Cardinal 55. This reel took the specimen reel world by storm and anyone who was a serious Carp fishermen at the time would of had at least one set of them in his armory.

After World War II, the company made an ice-fishing reel called the Pimpel—they were cheap at the time but are scarce, rare, and expensive for collectors today. Abu Garcia’s most famous fishing reel, the Record Ambassadeur Model SG, arrived in 1952.
15 Νοε 2021 · To say the ABU 5000 changed the sport of bass fishing would be an understatement. The ABU line of casting reels became the cornerstone reel for anyone serious about the sport through the 1980s. Every manufacturer copied details of the ABU reels to make their offerings better with little success.
In the mid 80s ABU opened a manufacturing plant in Japan and although some of the reels were good they were going nowhere and running out of ideas and really the only edge they had on the competition was their range of excellent closed-face reels, designed for river float fishing (trotting).
23 Οκτ 2013 · Yes, a common complaint with fine lines, when you think back though these reels were never designed to be match reels until the first 506 with plastic chenille in 1974, they were all spinning reels and designed to use heavy lines for bigger fish, even the 507 and 508 were sold as Salmon Carp or Pike reels.
22 Δεκ 2015 · There are more modern, and possibly better reels than these old Abu's, but some make more use of plastic and composite components, which are known to split, crack and perish, with some seemingly having an inbuilt design obsolescence!
