Nepal has used a series of five-year plans in an attempt to make progress in economic development. It completed its ninth economic development plan in 2002; its currency has been made convertible, and 17 state enterprises have been privatised.
The World Bank Group (WBG) fielded its first economic mission to Nepal in 1963 to assess the country’s development prospects and challenges. It approved its first credit in 1969 for a telecommunications project.

The central bank has taken out directives urging banking and financial institutions to increase their capital base, which has led to a positive trend in mergers, acquisitions and overall strengthening of the balance sheets.
3 Οκτ 2023 · KATHMANDU, October 3, 2023— Nepal’s economy is expected to rebound to 3.9% in FY24 owing to a lagged impact of the lifting of import restrictions, strong rebound in tourism, and the gradual loosening of monetary policy, according to the World Bank’s twice-a-year country update.
2 Οκτ 2024 · Nepal’s real GDP growth accelerated to 3.9 percent in FY24, up from 2 percent in FY23. The services sector was the key driver, fueled by a 30.7 percent surge in tourist arrivals, which boosted activities in transportation, accommodation, and food services.
