12 Οκτ 2024 · The Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad, better known as The Katy, was a large granger that maintained an unconventional north-south network within a region dominated by the Santa Fe, Missouri Pacific, and Southern Pacific/St. Louis Southwestern (Cotton Belt).
Sectional Map of Texas Traversed by the Missouri, Kansas & Texas Railway, 1904. When the Katy railroad reached Houston, its joint ownership of the Galveston, Houston and Henderson Railroad gave it immediate access to the Port of Galveston and its ocean-going shipping on the Gulf of Mexico.
The projected Northeastern Extension of the Tebo and Neosho Railroad (the Katy) went from Sedalia to a junction with the North Missouri Railroad (the Wabash) at Moberly. The construction of this line in 1873 forced open "the Sedalia gateway" and gave the Katy access to St. Louis.
8 Δεκ 2017 · The Katy Railroad began far from Texas in 1870 in Kansas. This new railway combined several smaller lines to create its initial extent throughout Kansas. At the time, it was known as the Union Pacific Railway Southern Branch, with no relation to the better known Union Pacific Railroad.
The Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad, affectionately referred to as the Katy, was created in 1865. By the time it joined Union Pacific in 1988, the Katy served six midwestern states with more than 3,377 miles of track.
