5 Δεκ 2021 · I downloaded the Minecraft Launcher and am attempting to install Minecraft for Windows and every time I click "Install", it has me select the drive to install it and then immediately afterward, the word "Error" appears in the lower left of the launcher next to settings.

When I download and install minecraft, the .msi file downloads an old version of the Minecraft launcher (1.6.93). How do I force the installer to download the current version, and why is it downloading the old one?
Check your launcher settings in the specific installation profile you're using, and if it specifies a Java version, either untick that setting to make it use the vanilla bundled version, or verify that it's pointing at the correct file.
21 Οκτ 2023 · On Google, I found this: helpdeskgeek. It lists some potential methods to fix your problem, but I'm excluding a few because you've already done it, or what you have done rules it out. So, what remains is: Launching it as an administrator. Run the program compatibility troubleshooter.
On the launcher landing page, find your saved installation in the list and click it to change to that version of the game. I get to step 2 and although older versions of Minecraft are listed, I cannot select them and it defaults to 1.18.
