Runelite is on Jagex’s approved client list, so there is absolutely no harm in using it. You can even find a link directly to the official website from Old School Runescape’s homepage! Only download Runelite from the official website: Runelite.net.
Download the official client from the website. https://www.runescape.com/oldschool/download. Just want to add that yes, most people (I assume at least) use some sort of 3rd party client, however it can be intimidating for a new player.
