The four main symptoms of diabetes mellitus are increased thirst, increased urination, weight loss, and increased appetite. These signs may go unnoticed, especially in the early stages of the disease, or if a cat spends a lot of time outdoors.
Symptoms. Diabetic cats tend to show the following symptoms: Weight loss - cats with diabetes have often been overweight then very suddenly lose weight; Drinking more; Peeing more; Increased appetite; Fur changes – untidy looking coat
Diabetic cats typically present for investigation of polyuria, polydipsia, polyphagia and weight loss, although the ratio in which these individual signs occur may vary between patients. Reduced activity, attitude, ability to jump, plantigrade (and even palmigrade) posture and unkempt hair coat might also be present.
Diagnosis. The classical clinical signs of diabetes in cats are polyuria, polydipsia, and weight loss.
