15 Αυγ 2024 · The oldest images of cats in ancient Egypt appear as hieroglyphs at Lisht. A block relief dating to the later Old Kingdom (found within the Middle Kingdom pyramid complex of Amenemhat I) names a city called Miuu, written as three seated cats that reads ‘Lord of Cats’ Town’.

In 1830, Christian Gottfried Ehrenberg accounted of having observed three different small cat forms in Egypt: the jungle cat, the African wildcat, and a sacred cat that was intermediate in size between the jungle cat and the domestic cat.
The Egyptian Chausie cat is believed to be one of the oldest breeds of domestic cats. They are known for their striking, “wild” appearance and are often referred to as the “Pharaoh Cat” due to their resemblance to Egypt’s sacred cat gods.
