Create your own DIY olive oil lamp and enjoy the brightness of this ancient method of lighting. It is healthier than using paraffin-based oils and can be nearly smoke-free. Add essential oils, if desired, to mask the olive oil scent, and enjoy this bright oil lamp light whenever you need to.
Step 1: Olive Oil Lamp Parts. You will need an ordinary metal coat hanger, a wick, a canning jar (these are heat treated and can withstand the hot temperature), and needle-nose pliers. The wick shown in this photo is a typical kerosene lamp wick.
To make an olive oil lamp, you’ll need a few basic materials. First, you’ll need a small glass jar or container to use as the base of your lamp.
