Chives (Allium schoenoprasum) are in the onion family. They form clumps of tiny bulbs that sprout narrow, cylindrical leaves up to 30cm (1ft) tall. These leaves can be harvested from spring to autumn, dying down over winter and re-sprouting every spring.
