But the lake began far less glamorously--simply known as "Reservoir #4" and intended to be a source of drinking water for LA.
28 Ιουλ 2024 · Echo Park got its name when its landscape architect heard an echo as he shouted across the arroyo where the Park is located. The existing boathouse at the Lake's east side was constructed in 1932 with funding provided by unemployment relief bonds during the Great Depression.
Echo Park and its Lake are visible in the center of the photo, the famed Angelus Temple with its domed roof can be seen on the lower left, and Downtown L.A. skyscrapers sit majestically in the background.
