Orbital diagrams depict the distribution of electrons in the various orbitals of an atom’s electron cloud, providing insight into its chemical and physical properties. In an orbital diagram, each orbital is represented by a box, with arrows denoting the electrons.
6 Σεπ 2021 · An electron configuration diagram is a model that depicts the position of electrons as they orbit the nucleus of an atom. Electrons are represented by dots or crosses and are positioned in energy levels, or ‘shells’, around the central nucleus.
An orbital diagram, like those shown above, is a visual way to reconstruct the electron configuration by showing each of the separate orbitals and the spins on the electrons. This is done by first determining the subshell (s,p,d, or f) then drawing in each electron according to the stated rules above.
