On Nov. 6. 1793, a British Order in Council was issued, but was not made public until the end of the year, directing British cruisers to stop, detain, and bring in for legal adjudication all ships laden with goods the production of any French colony, or carrying provisions or other supplies for the use of such colony.
1 Αυγ 2024 · Orders in Council are made by the King acting on the advice of the Privy Council and are approved in person by the monarch. Orders “in” and “of” Council are no different from other forms of delegated legislation. Where they are statutory they will usually involve a Parliamentary procedure.
The Orders in Council were a series of decrees issued by the British government during the Napoleonic Wars that restricted neutral trade with France and its allies. These orders were a key factor leading to the War of 1812 between the United States and Great Britain.
