1 Ιουν 2022 · The orthodox gender ideology continues to reign – at least de facto – in the world of sport and Christianity, and the articles in this special issue describe different contexts within that ideology as it emerged.
First, I discuss gender diferences in accessing physical liturgical space (access to the altar and women entering the church after the birth of a child) and the ways gender may shape physical liturgically oriented actions (such as accessing the altar or kissing the hand of a priest).
This book describes and analyzes lived expressions of and negotiations with the Orthodox tradition in several such contexts in Europe and the United States in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. It covers a wide array of gender-related phenomena and issues: theological, social, political, ethical, and practical.

Using case studies from several countries, with both large and small Orthodox populations, contributors use an interdisciplinary approach to address how gender and religion interact in contexts such as, iconography, conversion, social activism and ecumenical relations, among others.

In this view, human beings can be divided into two distinct, fixed, and non-interchangeable categories of biological sex (male/female), gender (masculine/feminine), and gender identity (man/woman).
