Oscillations and waves. Oscillation is a repetitive change of an object’s position from one point to another. If an oscillation takes same amount of time in each cycle (repetition), it is called a periodic oscillation. Examples of periodic oscillation: an oscillating pendulum and the vibrating strings of a guitar.
We begin by studying the type of force that underlies the simplest oscillations and waves. We will then expand our exploration of oscillatory motion and waves to include concepts such as simple harmonic motion, uniform circular motion, and damped harmonic motion.
