The Karamja Diary is a set of achievement diaries whose tasks revolve around areas within Karamja, which include the Kharazi Jungle and Mor Ul Rek. This is the first set of achievement diaries to be introduced into the game.
The Achievement Diary (also known as Diaries) is a one-off set of tasks and challenges exclusive to members that can be completed to obtain rewards and various benefits. Each Achievement Diary consists of tasks that are usually tied to a specific area, and are intended to test the player's skills and knowledge about the said area.
The diary states that you need to craft a certain amount of runes. Since you're producing the runes in the minigame at the altars, the diaries are likely completable within the minigame area - and therefore also get the lantern bonus

Completing the medium diary allows you to get the 10% chance when smelting mithril bars, hard allows you to get it for adamant and elite allows you to get it for runite. Ardougne cloak - Ardougne diary - Easy to elite reward
The full set of Raiments will give 1.6x runes, so it can't let you do the task at lower RC level than usual. But, let's say you're 86 RC, and you get a +5 boost from a stew. The Karamja Elite task says to craft 56 runes, which normally would require a full inventory of essence and nothing else.
Karamja was the first diary made. The levels and items needed are much harsher as a result.
