17 Ιουλ 2014 · Kiyomizu Temple, also known as the Pure Water Temple, is one of the more famous temples in Japan and is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The temple is located on top of a hill in the Higashiyama (eastern mountain) district of Kyoto.
It was founded in 780 on the site of the Otowa Waterfall in the wooded hills east of Kyoto and derives its name from the fall's waters. The temple was originally associated with the Hosso sect, one of the oldest schools within Japanese Buddhism, but formed its own Kita Hosso sect in 1965.
Beneath the main hall is the Otowa waterfall, where three channels of water fall into a pond. Visitors can catch and drink the water, which is believed to have wish-granting powers. There is also the Tainai Meguri, a dark tunnel said to represent the womb of Daizuiku Bosatsu (the bodhisattva Mahāpratisarā ).
15 Απρ 2021 · “Kiyomizu” means clear or pure water, and the temple got its name from the Otowa Waterfall that runs through the temple complex. Kiyomizu-dera Temple was first built in 778 in the early Heian Period (794 – 1185), when Buddhism, Taoism, and China had a significant influence on Japan.
12 Απρ 2004 · Otowa Waterfall. Here you will find three falling streams called Otowa Waterfall. See the pictures below. The water looks very pure, and Kiyomizu Temple’s name, “Kiyomizu,” which, again, means “pure water,” is derived from this waterfall. Each narrow stream is said to have a different effect.
The crystal spring that Kenshin discovered was later called Otowa Waterfall, from which pure water continues to flow even today. Two years later, a warrior called Sakanoue-no-Tamuramaro, who had come to Mt. Otowa to hunt deer came across Kenshin at Otowa Waterfall.
8 Δεκ 2023 · The water flowing through the Otowa waterfall is believed to be sacred and is known as “Konjiki-sui” and “Emmei-sui” which means “Golden Water” and “Longevity Water” respectively. The waterfall is split into 3 different streams and cumulates in to one fountain.
